POPsud, an association founded at the initiative of company CEOs, researchers and academics, celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2010, and with it the achievement of various key stages and the creation of a range of facilities focused on innovation and development, for the benefit of the optics-photonics community in the south of France:
- the creation of a well-structured community of key actors in industry and academic research, organised around a network of members and a range of technology-focused services and tools (theme-based meetings, directories, contact developing processes, etc.)
- the award in 2005 of the Competitiveness Cluster label OPTITEC, for Complex Systems for Optics and Imaging; more than 130 projects have been submitted and 100 projects were awarded the label. After a positive assessment in June 2008, the OPTITEC cluster was validated for the three following years (2009-2011), with a Performance Contract with the state and the territorial authorities.
- the award of the label PRIDES (Pôle Régional d’Innovation et de Développement de l’Economie Solidaire), for a cluster including about 100 companies and 40 research laboratories in the region, which drives a growth dynamic of 10 % per year on average (600 jobs created in 3 years and 20 start-ups)
- the development of the European and international dimension of the Cluster, with R&D and business partnerships with the leading countries in this sector (Germany, Great Britain, Italy, the European Union, Quebec, Brazil).
