Optics and photonics are at the heart of technological development for tomorrow.
The south of France (Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, Languedoc-Roussillon, Midi-Pyrénées) is one of the richest regions in Europe in this field and offers a broad range of competencies: from optical micro-components to image processing, from light sources to detectors, from optical fibre data transmission to lasers, from ophthalmic lenses to complex optical instrumentation, from telecommunications to space or medical applications.
POPsud, an association founded in 2000 at the initiative of industry and research organisations, is today a community with more than 170 deeply committed members, involved in industrial development, research and higher education in optics, photonics and image processing. It is a network that lives by exchanging ideas and know-how, that works to promote a competency, photonics, in the south of France, with the aim of placing it in the first rank at national and European level.
POPsud also stands for years of experience based on joint technological facilities accessible to both companies and laboratories, pooled platforms that provide the link between fundamental research and industry.
Finally, POPsud represents the emergence of leading edge structure-building projects, such as the European cluster OPTITEC which is supported by the national Competitivity Cluster label in 'Photonics : Complex Optical and Imaging Systems'.
